IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 Insulin-like Growth Factor-I) is a synthetic peptide consisting of 83 amino acids, mirroring the sequence of human IGF-I. It differs from native IGF-I by the substitution of an Arginine for the Glutamic Acid at position 3, along with a 13 amino acid extension peptide at the N-terminus. This modification renders Long R3IGF-I considerably more potent (2-3x) than IGF-1 LR3, as it exhibits lower affinity towards inactivation by IGF binding proteins, thus offering greater potential activity within the body.
IGF-1 LR3, comprising 70 amino acids in a single chain with three intramolecular disulfide bridges, shares a structural resemblance and size similarity with insulin. It belongs to the family of peptides known as growth factors and acts as a highly anabolic hormone produced both in the liver and peripheral tissues like skeletal muscle. Its release is stimulated by Human Growth Hormone (HGH), particularly after intense resistance training, facilitating muscle growth.
